Kids and families

Darchei Noam is like most communities - our children form a central focus of our communal life. Click here to find out about children's services, babysitting, family-oriented Friday night services, monthly family service, the family service at High Holy Days, and our family programming throughout the year.

SUnday Hebrew school

The Darchei Noam Hebrew School operates on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Classes range from kindergarten to grade 6. The curriculum includes Hebrew language instruction, as well as a broad range of Jewish studies.

WEEKday Kesharim Program

On weekdays from 5 to 7, we offer a unique experience for Grades 3 to 6. Kesharim is an arts-based program that examines the two fundamental ways in which Jews around the world are connected:  our common language (modern Hebrew) and the journeys of our ancestors.  A basic knowledge of Hebrew is required.  We are affiliated with and receive funding from UJA-Federation’s Center for the Enhancement of Jewish Education.  This funding adds to the programming and enrichment for our students

Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah Class

Taught directly by our Director of Youth Education and Programming, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah class meets approximately twice each month from September to May. Together, we tackle three topics that are vital to a person’s transition from childhood to adulthood:  Mitzvah (our ethical code), Theology (ways of approaching God and Godliness) and Kavannah (service from the heart).  This is done through a mix of text study, discussion, community projects, and Learner’s Services on Shabbat. A fall retreat helps the students achieve a sense of cohesion and friendship that will carry them into their teen years as they move on to DNTeens in Grade 8.  To see our program outline, click here.  For more information, contact Elliott at elliottdn@bellnet.ca.

DN teens

Darchei Noam's teen group, DN teens, gives young people an opportunity to maintain connection with each other through shul activities, social action involvement, and exciting recreational programming.
