Kallah B'reisheit and Chatan Torah
At Darchei Noam each year we mark the end of the Torah Cycle by honouring a woman and a man from our congregation who has shown respect and devotion for the values of Congregation Darchei Noam - through respect for Torah, Tikkun Olam or other exceptional dedication to the life and goals of the Community. These honorees are known as the Kallah Bereishit (Bride of Genisis) and Chatan Torah (Torah Bridegroom).
The Kallah Bereshit and Chatan Torah are called to the Torah to celbrate the beginning of the restaring of the annual Torah Cycle with Bereshit (Genisis). At Darchei Noam a Tradition has evolved whereby the Kallah Bereishit and Chatan Torah are honored with an aliya on the Shabbat before Simchat Torah, and each of them tells the Congregation the story of their own Spiritual Journey.
