The Mitzvah Committee

Kindness and warmth

The Mitzvah committee is dedicated to serving the Darchei Community by helping it continue to be the kind, warm and supportive congregation that it is. We perform mitzvahs and encourage our congregants to do so. There are two shining facets to the program.. We help and support individuals and families in times of need and we encourage a warm, interactive and friendly atmosphere at Shul and among our congregants.

Support in time of need

In our supportive function, for funerals, we ensure that there is a minyan for the shiva, provide meals and give emotional support. We also visit the sick on a one-time or continuous basis, and arrange for those with disabilities to have lifts to Shul and for shopping as required. In addition we have arranged for convenient seating spaces for those in wheelchairs. Lastly, we help with job searches.

A warm atmosphere at shul

In our encouragement of a warm and positive shul atmosphere, we ensure that the shul ushers are also shul welcomers, encourage meeting new people at Kiddush, host an annual erev shabbat dinner, encourage long-time members to host new members for a shabbat meal, encourage all those who spiritually need a shabbat meal to get together with those who would like to act as a host, and represent our shul at the United Chesed of Toronto.

We search for and continually find new ways to make our Shul into a more sharing and caring community.
