A HOME OF OUR OWN On January 27, 2008, after over 30 years in a variety of locations, Darchei
Noam moved to our new home
at 864 Sheppard Avenue West. We have build a home of our own in order to
enhance all that we do and to make it possible to do much more.
From our new, spacious, light filled sanctuary to our renovated social hall
(complete with stage, dance floor and a kosher meat kitchen), to the
classrooms, flexible program spaces, library, on-site offices, dedicated teen
and babysitting rooms (babies right next to the sanctuary, teens further
away!), we now have the home we want and need to support the continued growth
and development of our special community. And we are proud that we have
demonstrated, through our design choices, a real and important environmental
commitment.
Although it is not our reason for the project, our new home has already begun
to raise the profile of Reconstructionist Judaism and our congregation in the
Jewish community of Toronto. Just three years ago, this was only a dream. We
had no money and no building plans. But we did have a vision. And now, through
the efforts of our entire community, our dream has come to fruition.
We will fill our new home with our prayers and our songs, with study and
discussion, with dancing and laughter, and with the sound of our children’s
voices.
