About Darchei Noam

The small print first

Community and Tradition

Our tradition teaches us that the quest for meaning cannot take place alone. It must be undertaken within a community, which is more than just a group of like-minded individuals. To be truly transformative, it must be a kehillah kedoshah, a sacred community.

A HOME OF OUR OWN

In December of 2007, after over 30 years in a variety of locations, Darchei Noam will be moving to our new home at 864 Sheppard Avenue West. We are building a home of our own in order to enhance all that we do and to make it possible to do much more.

From our new, spacious, light filled sanctuary to our renovated social hall (complete with stage, dance floor and a kosher meat kitchen), to the classrooms, flexible program spaces, library, on-site offices, dedicated teen and babysitting rooms (babies right next to the sanctuary, teens further away!), we will have the home we want and need to support the continued growth and development of our special community. And we are proud that we have demonstrated, through our design choices, a real and important environmental commitment.

Although it is not our reason for the project, our new home will clearly raise the profile of Reconstructionist Judaism and our congregation in the Jewish community of Toronto.
Just two years ago, this was only a dream. We had no money and no building plans. But we did have a vision. And now, through the efforts of our entire community, our dream is coming to fruition.

We will fill our new home with our prayers and our songs, with study and discussion, with dancing and laughter, and with the sound of our children’s voices. For more information on our new home, click here.

Would you like to find out more?

You may download our brochure, browse more of our website, or contact our office. But the the best way to find out about us is to join us for a Shabbat service any Saturday at 10 am (babysitting provided), stay for kiddush, and get to know some members of the congregation. We'd love to meet you in person, and if you let us know you are coming, somebody will gladly arrange to be your "host" at the service.

We also sponsor regular information sessions about Congregation Darchei Noam and Reconstructionist Judaism. Please call and we will let you know where and when they are held.
